JAKARTA - The US military has again attacked three ships suspected of smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing eight people.

The US Southern Command, which leads US military operations in Latin America and the Caribbean Sea, announced on its X account that the attack took place yesterday.

"Intelligence confirms that the ships are crossing a known drug trafficking route in the Eastern Pacific and are involved in drug trafficking," the US Southern Command X account, @Southcom, wrote today.

In its post, US Southern Command also included video footage of three separate vessels floating in the water before each was hit by a bomb attack.

The US Southern Command added that the attack killed three people on the first ship, two on the second ship, and three others on the third ship.

However, the US military again provided no evidence for its claims of attacks targeting ships suspected of transporting drugs in the Pacific Ocean or on the borders of Latin America.

Sharp scrutiny of the attack has been voiced by human rights advocates and Democratic U.S. lawmakers. Last month, the U.N. human rights chief warned that the attack could violate international law.
