JAKARTA - The Geological Agency asks people in the Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) regions to be aware of flash flood and landslide disasters during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 periods.

"Why? Because the BMKG's prediction results in mid-December to the end of January 2026 are the peak of the rainy season," said Head of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency Hadi Wijaya at the opening of the National Post of the ESDM Sector, at the building of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), Jakarta, Monday, December 15, reported by ANTARA.

Therefore, Hadi asked local governments in areas prone to flooding and landslides to carry out cross-sectoral coordination.

Hadi said that floods and landslides predicted in the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 periods were quite worrying, because they were accompanied by the peak of the rainy season.

"Especially in the coastal areas of the south," he said.

In addition to giving warnings about the possibility of flooding and landslides, Hadi also conveyed that the Geological Agency had listed three volcanoes that were at the Alert level, namely Mount Merapi, DIY-Central Java; Mount Semeru, East Java; and Mount Lewotobi, NTT.

Then, for volcanoes that are at level 2 or Alert, there are 24 mountains.

"The total number of affected people is quite large, for level 2 and 3 this can reach 15 million people. Hopefully, our hope is that there will be no victims," he said.

Hadi also explained that this year Indonesia experienced 38 earthquakes, up from 31 events in 2024.

"However, there was a tsunami that did not cause much damage. It (happened) twice," he said.

He made the statement at the opening of the National ESDM Sector Post to monitor energy availability during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 periods.

Responding to the exposure of the Geological Agency, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ahmad Erani Yustika, asked all stakeholders to pay attention to these vulnerabilities, so that they can mitigate them.

He also asked all parties to cooperate and not go it alone, so that work effectiveness can be achieved.

"Consolidation is needed, sectoral ego is pushed aside," said Erani.
