Pramono Will Form a Betawi Traditional Council, Appointing Foke as Chairman

JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will establish a Betawi Traditional Council. This institution will oversee all Betawi community organizations (ormas) in Jakarta.

The establishment of the Betawi Traditional Council was one of the recommendations of the 2025 Special Congress of the Betawi People, held on October 18th.

According to Pramono, this is also in line with the mandate of Law Number 2 of 2024 concerning the Special Region of Jakarta Province, which mandates that Betawi culture be placed as the primary culture in Jakarta.

"If this happens, then I am sure the leverage or position of the Betawi People, and their Traditional Council, will be highly respected by everyone," Pramono said at the MH Thamrin Museum, Central Jakarta, Monday, December 15th.

Pramono emphasized that the Betawi Traditional Council will be on an equal footing with the Jakarta Provincial Government in a partnership to advance Betawi culture.

In planning its formation, the figure proposed to lead the Betawi Traditional Council was former Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo (Foke). Pramono admitted that he agreed with Foke's proposal for chairman.

"I will then give full authority to Bang Foke and Mr. Fauzi Bowo, as the agreed-upon person. Everyone has conveyed their sami'na wa atho'na to Bang Foke, so that's what I, as Governor, will follow up on," said Pramono.

Pramono promised to complete the process of establishing the Betawi traditional council and determine the name of the institution this week. He will clearly issue a strong legal framework as the basis for establishing the Betawi traditional council.

"I know for sure that this will make this institution's authority in the eyes of everyone very respectable, very high. The most important thing is, once it's decided, you all must truly follow it," Pramono explained.

"I, personally and as the Governor of Jakarta, am grateful that the Betawi people and the Betawi people can become one. I consider this institution and the Betawi traditional community to be a partner, a partner of the Jakarta government. Therefore, we will implement it immediately," he added.
