6 Times Arrested, Grandfather Of Cendet Bird Hunting In Baluran Situbondo Sued 2 Years In Prison

SITUBONDO - The public prosecutor (JPU) of the Situbondo District Attorney demanded a two-year prison sentence for Masir (71), a defendant in the alleged theft of five birds of centet in the Baluran National Park conservation area, Situbondo, East Java.

The demands were given in reference to the Law on Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems.

This case is in the public spotlight because Masir is known to have repeatedly committed similar violations.

"The two-year prison sentence against the defendant is a minimum charge, referring to the Law on Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems," said Head of Intel Kejari Situbondo Huda Hazamal, in Situbondo, Antara, Friday, December 12.

Huda explained that the prosecutor's office could not implement restorative justice because Masir had been caught six times in the same case. Five previous cases were stopped by the Balan National Park through a restorative justice scheme.

"We are concerned because the defendant is 71 years old, and this trial is the last resort. Previously, five were released and the sixth was prosecuted," he said.

He added that the requirements for implementing restorative justice were not fulfilled, so the legal process must continue. On Thursday (11/12), the defendant has undergone a trial with the agenda of reading the plea by his attorney.
