MBG Car Hits Dozens Of Elementary School Students In Cilincing, LBH: Consequences Of Chaotic Governance

JAKARTA - LBH Jakarta assessed that the accident of a free nutritious food carrier (MBG) that hit dozens of students at SDN 01 Kalibaru, Cilincing, North Jakarta, was not just a single accident.

According to LBH Jakarta Public Lawyer Abdul Rohim Marbun, the Cilincing tragedy emerged from weak program governance and the lack of safety standards in MBG operations involving thousands of schools every day.

"This incident is a consequence of the management of the MBG program which is chaotic, unprofessional, and ignores the safety of residents, especially children," Abdul said in his statement, Thursday, December 11.

LBH Jakarta assesses that this program is designed and run without clear technical standards. The absence of risk control and control instruments is considered to make the safety burden move to the community, especially children who are service recipients.

"The state has created programs without standards, without supervision, and without adequate risk control, so today children have to pay a price for the negligence of the policy," he said.

LBH Jakarta emphasized that the state failed to ensure safety in the implementation of MBG. They reminded that this program previously also triggered cases of mass poisoning that caused more than 11,000 victims as of October 5, 2025, based on data from the Ministry of Health.

"The two tragedies that occurred in the near future emphasized that the problems that occurred were not just technical problems, but systemic problems," he said.

LBH asked the government not to stop conveying condolences.

They urged the temporary suspension of MBG operations until a thorough evaluation was carried out and all safety standards were met.

An open investigation was also requested to be held to policy makers, and the results were published transparently.

"If policy negligence is found, the responsible official must be removed. If a violation of the law is found, the criminal process must proceed,"

LBH Jakarta also conveyed three demands to the state, namely demanding President Prabowo Subianto temporarily suspend and evaluate the total MBG policy, asking Prabowo to be responsible for all efforts to recover victims and victims' families, and urging the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to provide maximum health services and ensure the disclosure of information on the handling of victims.
