Terra Drone Fire Building, Pramono: Building Structure Violates Rules

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung assessed that the Terra Drone building in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, which caught fire on Tuesday, December 9, violated standard building safety rules.

This was known by Pramono after directly reviewing the location of the incident and discussing with the Central Jakarta Police Chief and the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government after the procurement and the evacuation process was completed.

"Actually, the main problem is that if everyone obeys the rules, it will not happen. This must be built without regulations," Pramono said when met at the Mulia Hotel, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, December 10.

According to Pramono, the physical condition of the storage building and the sale of these drones show strong indications that safety standards have not been met since the beginning of the construction.

He highlighted the structure of the building that did not comply with the provisions and lack of emergency rescue facilities, which ultimately had a fatal impact when the fire appeared and smoke filled the room quickly.

"If I look at the structure and so on, they will definitely break the rules. Why? The stairs are very small, and that's what causes some people who can't go down," said Pramono.

Temporary suspicion, the fire occurred as a result of explosions on drones stored and sold inside the building. According to Pramono, this factor is one of the triggers for the rapid spread of fire and smoke.

"The main problem is that the building is not prepared with rescue in case of a fire. There are indeed firefighters, the hydrant is there, but what doesn't exist is how then they sell or prepare lithium batteries for the drone. The problem yesterday," he said.

The situation inside the building is said to be getting worse because there is no emergency door downstairs. Thus, workers are looking for a way out by climbing to the top floor when thick smoke has billowed.

"When it caught fire, finally people, employees, went up all over, then smoke from below. That's why quite a lot of people died," said Pramono.

Furthermore, Pramono ensured that the DKI Provincial Government would bear all funeral expenses for the victims. In addition, all injured victims receive treatment at the hospital at the expense of the DKI Provincial Government.

"The task of the Jakarta government that I lead is how to make it easier for anyone who dies to be helped to be buried in Jakarta on the responsibility of the Jakarta government. Including those who are injured, sick, and so on, we bear it," he added.

The fire incident at the building on Jalan Letjend Suprapto occurred on Tuesday, December 9 at 12:43 WIB. The death toll from the fire at the drone sales building was 22 people. The victims consisted of 15 women and 7 men.

BPBD noted that 76 employees were in the Terra Drone Indonesia building. In the fire incident that occurred, 54 people were rescued and are now undergoing treatment.
