Prabowo Calls RI-Pakistan A Moderate Muslim State Promoting Tolerance

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia and Pakistan have common value as the largest Muslim countries in the world, but are moderate Islam that promotes inclusiveness and tolerance.

In a joint statement session (joint statement) with Pakistani Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif at the official residence of the prime minister (PM House) in Islamabad, President Prabowo said Indonesia and Pakistan had historical relations.

"We have common values, we have common interests, we may be both the largest Muslim countries in the world, but our Islam is moderate Islam that promotes inclusiveness, tolerance, and historical relations," President Prabowo said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 9.

Prabowo assessed that the brotherhood relationship between Indonesia and Pakistan was also established with strong solidarity.

Therefore, the Head of State assesses the importance in the next few years to take advantage of the momentum of the bonds of brotherhood between the two countries, especially in cooperation in various fields.

Meanwhile, PM Sharif said diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Pakistan had existed for more than 75 years. Sharif also invited bilateral warnings between the two countries to be celebrated in two capital cities, namely Islamabad and Jakarta

"Your visit coincides with the commemoration of our diplomatic relations. Let's agree to celebrate these 75 years with great fanfare in Jakarta and Islamabad," said Sharif.

Sharif continued that the relationship between Pakistan and Indonesia had actually been established before Indonesia's independence

The founder of Pakistan, Qaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who was then President of the Indian Muslim League, supported the Indonesian people to achieve independence.

"He fully supports President Soekarno. And Alhamdulillah, in August 1945, Indonesia claimed its independence, even though the Netherlands officially acknowledged it in 1949. I think it was an extraordinary heroic struggle from the people of Indonesia, our brothers and sisters," said Sharif.
