KPAI Invites All Galang Parties To Concern Children Victims Of Disasters In Aceh And Sumatra

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) encourages the government to immediately respond quickly to children who are victims of floods and landslides that occur in Aceh and Sumatra.

"KPAI wants to encourage all parties to raise awareness, a movement for children by making the ecological disaster tragedy a national disaster," said Deputy Chairperson of KPAI, Jasra Putra when confirmed by VOI, Sunday, December 7, 2025.

Jasra said the ecological disaster situation left a lot of grief for the children.

"Disappearance in a situation that is not ready, brings deep sadness and requires long rehabilitation," he said.

In addition, comprehensive assistance to children is needed. Moreover, Jasra said, this ecological disaster eliminates one village, assets, family members, eliminates his dear sister, eliminates livelihood search, so that it brings a very deep poverty gap.

"Children are often at the very end of all problems. Pay attention to evacuation posts, nutritious food to maintain the health of children, women and the elderly," he said.

Jasra said children who are in refugee camps for more than a week generally often get new problems such as respiratory tracts, fever and sexual violence.

"So the layer of supervision and protection is very important," he said.

According to Jasra, Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning the Child Protection Act Article 59 concerning the obligations of the government, local governments, and other state institutions is obliged and responsible for providing special protection to children in point a, namely children in emergency situations.

Jasra explained, Article 59a also explained in detail what steps must be taken immediately, such as quick treatment, including treatment/or rehabilitation physically, psychologically, and socially, as well as preventing other diseases and health problems. Continued psychosocial assistance during treatment until recovery and provision of social assistance for children from underprivileged families; as well as providing protection and assistance in every process.

"The method of handling children in an Emergency Situation is also explained in Government Regulation Number 78 of 2021 concerning Child Special Protection," he said.
