MANADO The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Bitung Maritime Station issued a warning of tidal wave potential (rob) and extreme weather in North Sulawesi waters (Sulut) until December 7, 2025. This increase in sea water level was triggered by a combination of astronomical factors and atmospheric dynamics.

BMKG Data and Information Division Coordinator of Bitung Maritime Station, Ricky D. Aror, explained that the perige phenomenon (nearest distance from the moon to earth) coincided with the full moon phase on December 4, 2025. This condition has great potential to increase the maximum sea level.

"The existence of a perige and full moon phenomenon on December 4, 2025 has the potential to increase the maximum sea level," said Ricky D. Aror in Manado, Thursday, quoted from ANTARA, Friday, November 5, 2025.

In addition, said Ricky, the formation of cyclone seeds in the eastern waters of the Philippines has created a convergence area in North Sulawesi waters. This condition resulted in convective clouds containing rain, high waves, and strong winds in the North Sulawesi region.

Wind speed is estimated to be in the range of 8-20 knots, and has the potential to reach up to 30 knots. This condition causes significant high wave opportunities in the waters of North Sulawesi and its surroundings, with wavelengths likely to reach a moderate category, between 1.25 and 2.5 meters.

The BMKG appealed to the public to remain vigilant, considering that North Sulawesi is currently entering the rainy season with the dominant wind from the west which can trigger potential bad weather.

"The public is advised to remain vigilant. Entering the rainy season with the dominant wind from the west can trigger potential bad weather," he said.

Ricky invites fishermen and sea transportation users to always monitor maritime weather forecast updates and ensure official information only comes from BMKG which is distributed through verified official communication channels for shipping safety.
