The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning of the potential for extreme weather in Central Java on December 4-10, 2025 due to atmospheric disturbances that increased the formation of convective clouds that triggered heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
Head of the Data Service and Information Dissemination Team for BMKG Meteorological Station (Stamet) Tunggul Wulung Cilacap, Teguh Wardoyo, said that based on data released by BMKG Stamet Ahmad Yani Semarang, the potential for extreme weather was triggered by several atmospheric factors, ranging from the warm sea surface temperature in the Java Sea which increased water vapor to the existence of wind bends and encounters in the local area.
In addition, Rossby's equatorial waves, high humidity in various layers, and strong local liabilities also support the formation of Cumulonimbus convective clouds that trigger heavy rains.
BMKG noted that areas that need to be watched out for in the period 4-10 December 2025, include most districts/cities in Central Java, with the intensity of rain varying every day.
Areas that have the potential to be affected by extreme weather on December 4, including Cilacap, Banyumas, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Kebumen, Purworejo, Magelang, Boyolali, to northern coastal areas such as Demak, Jepara, and Rembang.
On December 5-7, extreme weather is predicted to continue in the central highlands, such as Wonosobo and Banjarnegara, as well as the northern coastal areas, including Batang, Pekalongan, Pemalang, Tegal, and Brebes.
On December 8-10, similar potentials expanded to a number of areas, such as Grobogan, Pati, Kudus, and returned to the western region of Central Java.
"The highlands and hilly slopes are locations that must be more vigilant because the potential for landslides increases when the intensity of rain is high," he said in Cilacap, Antara, Thursday, December 4.
Regarding these weather conditions, he appealed to the public to be aware of hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, flash floods, landslides, strong winds, and fallen trees.
He reminded the public to avoid activities around the river and stay away from slopes prone to landslides when it rains heavily.
"If there is heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, people should not move outside the room and stay away from large trees, billboards, or electric poles," he said.
He asked local governments and related parties to increase mitigation efforts and expand the spread of early warning information to the public.
