Minister Of Environment Regarding The Urge For Reshuffle Due To The Sumatra Flood: I Will Hand Over, This Is A Long Problem

JAKARTA - The Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, has surrendered if it has to be reshuffled due to the flash floods and landslides that occurred in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra because they were considered to have failed to monitor the environment.

This was conveyed by Hanif in response to the hectic pressure to withdraw from a number of people on social media against the Minister of Environment, the Minister of Forestry and the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Hanif said that his party would try to be responsible for and carry out improvements related to environmental damage that occurred in the Sumatra region. He asked for support from all parties to resolve the problems that have existed since the previous administration.

"Yes, I will surrender fully to carry out this. Of course once again we ask for permission for our support. Because this is a long-term problem, it doesn't happen at this time," said Hanif at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, December 3.

"But we don't blame, the important thing is that the landscape is lacking, so we need to increase the capacity (landscape)," he continued.

Previously, a number of elements of society urged President Prabowo Subianto to take firm steps regarding the issue of illegal logging which resulted in landslides in the Sumatra region.

BEM SI asked the President to conduct a thorough evaluation of the Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, and the Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni. It even demands that both of them resign if they are unable to account for the failure of environmental supervision that resulted in this humanitarian disaster.

"If this amount of damage occurs and the people become victims, then political responsibility must be taken. Evaluation or resignation is the appropriate attitude," said BEM SI Coordinator Muzammil Ihsan, sending a strong demand from students.
