JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Department of Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control (PPAPP) called East Jakarta the area with the most reports of cases of violence against women and children throughout 2025.
"East Jakarta is the area with the highest number of reports, namely 552 cases in 2025 to date," said Head of the DKI Jakarta PPAPP Service, Iin Mutmainnah, during the 16 Day campaign event to Prevent Violence against Women and Children at the East Jakarta Mayor's Office, Antara, 1 December.
Of these, psychological violence is the most dominant report. The forms vary, ranging from bullying, mocking, criticizing, to degrading physical appearance or body shaming, either directly or through social media.
"This is a sign that non-physical violence is increasing and recovery is not easy. Children can be depressed, difficult to develop according to their age, not confident, even at risk of suicide. Cases in Cilangkap some time ago occurred due to depression," said Iin.
The next highest type of violence is sexual violence, followed by Domestic Violence (KDRT) and physical violence.
Data from the Women and Children Protection Technical Implementation Unit (UPT PPA) Pulogadung shows that from the beginning of the year to December 1, 2025, there were 2,088 reports of violence throughout the DKI Jakarta area. Of these, 969 victims were adult women, 772 girls, and 347 boys. The trend of cases shows an increase compared to the previous year.
Although reports have increased, Iin considers this a positive signal that people are increasingly daring to convey incidents of violence.
"Residents of DKI are getting smarter and dare to speak up. They no longer consider violence as a disgrace," he said.
According to Iin, violence against women and children must be handled thoroughly, from prevention to recovery of victims.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is now intensifying the 16-Day Anti-Violence campaign against Women and Children, which started with kick off with Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno, Komnas Perempuan, and the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) at Balai Agung on November 22.
Iin hopes that the campaign can increase public awareness as well as strengthen joint commitment to make Jakarta an inclusive and safe city for all.
He explained, there are five main factors that trigger high cases of violence in the capital city. The first factor is the family's economic pressure, which makes women and children the most vulnerable groups. Unemployment, financial burdens, and inflation often trigger domestic conflicts that lead to domestic violence.
The second factor is parenting and the busyness of parents so that children do not get adequate care. Lack of knowledge about positive parenting also worsens the situation.
Meanwhile, exposure to gadgets and social media is the third factor. Negative content and violence in the digital space are considered to affect behavior, especially teenagers.

The fourth factor is related to a social environment that is less concerned. The last factor is early marriage and gender inequality, which is still a strong cause of violence against young women.
