JAKARTA - The Finnish government decided to close their embassies in Myanmar, Afghanistan and Pakistan by 2026 as part of a reform of foreign missions.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to close the Finnish Embassy in Islamabad, Kabul and Yangon from 2026," according to a statement by the Finnish Foreign Ministry.
The closure was carried out based on operational and strategic considerations in line with changes in the political situation in these countries and also the limitations of trade and economic relations with Finland.
At the same time, the new consulate general opened in Houston earlier this year part of the Finnish government's initiative to expand its presence in the United States, according to a statement.
