JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Meteorological Station appealed to people in the southern part of Central Java (Central Java) to be aware of the potential for moderate to heavy rain which could be accompanied by lightning in early December.

"The potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning can occur along with the increasing weather dynamics during the rainy season," said Head of the BMKG Data Service and Information Dissemination Team at the Tunggul Wulung Meteorological Station in Cilacap, Teguh Wardoyo in Cilacap, Friday, as reported by Antara.

He explained, in the next two days, namely Saturday, November 29 and Sunday, November 30, the weather in the southern Central Java region is relatively sunny to cloudy with light rain opportunities, especially in mountainous areas.

However, weather conditions are predicted to change from Monday, December 1 to Wednesday, December 3 next week when convective cloud formation has the potential to increase.

According to him, the potential for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning or lightning was triggered by strengthening westerly winds, warm sea level temperatures, and high humidity.

"The atmosphere conditions in early December supported the formation of high-intensity rain clouds in several areas of southern Central Java," he said.

In this case, he said, the air temperature is estimated to be in the range of 24-33 degrees Celsius with the dominant wind pattern from the southwest with a speed of 5-20 kilometers per hour.

According to him, the humidity of the air is in the range of 58-96 percent, so it is quite supportive of the formation of significant weather, especially during the day and into the night.

Regarding the monthly rainfall forecast, he said the Banyumas, Cilacap, and surrounding areas are predicted to experience rainfall between 400 millimeters to more than 500 millimeters in December 2025.

He said the rainfall rate was categorized as high to very high, so vigilance against hydrometeorological disasters needed to be increased.

The high rainfall has the potential to cause floods, landslides, strong winds, and disturbances in community activities. Therefore, we urge the public to remain vigilant and monitor weather information regularly," he said.

Teguh said the BMKG encourages local governments, disaster volunteers, and the community to take early mitigation steps, such as cleaning waterways, checking the condition of trees and buildings, and being careful when doing activities outside the room during the extreme weather period.
