Climate Adaptation Must Get Equal Mitigation Attention

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government said that one of Indonesia's priorities in COP30 is ensuring climate adaptation gets equal attention to mitigation.

"Indonesia encourages the clarity of the commitment to global adaptation funding that must be listed in the decision text, including the previously agreed funding tripling mandate," said Deputy for Climate Change Control and Carbon Economic Value Management of the Ministry of Environment Ary Sudijanto as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, November 23.

According to him, the loss of paragraphs related to adaptation funding figures in the latest text is a serious concern for Indonesia because it can weaken the direction of global implementation.

"Indonesia is at the forefront of fighting for the COP30 decision to really provide an implementative direction. Without funding clarity, vulnerable countries will be increasingly left behind in the increasingly real climate crisis," said Ary Sudijanto.

Indonesia also conveyed important notes regarding the progressive gender definition that appears in the draft decision.

He added that Indonesia emphasized that the concept could only be applied by taking into account the conditions of each country.

Diplomacy is carried out through a bilateral meeting between Indonesia and the Brazilian Presidency, most of which Indonesia's input has been accommodated in the latest draft.

The 30th Climate Change Conference of the United Nations (COP30) took place from November 10 to November 21, 2025 in Belèm, Brazil.
