JAKARTA - The 2025 AI Journey Conference brings together technology leaders, researchers, and industry players from various countries to discuss the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the global community. The main plenary discussion entitled Future with AI was followed by Russian President Vladimir Putin as a speaker and moderated by the CEO and Chairman of the Sberbank Executive Council, Herman Gref.

In the plenary discussion, President Putin stressed that AI has made major innovations in recent years with the ability to make decisions autonomously. This technology is now a strategic element, and leading countries are racing to have fundamental AI models. AI development is said to be one of the biggest technological efforts in history, a development relevant to many countries, including Indonesia, which is accelerating the use of AI in various sectors.

He also added that infrastructure for the development of AI models, including data processing centers and electronic components, must be strengthened. The application of various sectors needs to be supported by adequate regulations and ethical standards. This is an important factor to ensure the sovereignty, value, and technology of a country. President Putin also emphasized the importance of international collaboration through bilateral cooperation and intergovernmental organizational partnerships, to encourage cross-border collaboration in AI development.

Furthermore, President Putin also appreciated Sberbank and AI Alliance for their efforts to encourage the values of progress and unite the government, business world, and academics in technology development.

Meanwhile, CEO of Sber Herman Gref said that AI has influenced and will further shape all aspects of life, including health, science, education, economy, and industry. Gref also emphasized that one of the biggest challenges today is to help people adapt to the rapid changes that technology presents.

The plenary discussion also presented experts from Russia and various countries to discuss various specific transformations driven by AI developments.

Evgeny Burnaev, professor of physics and mathematics, as well as Head of Skoltech's AI Center, said that AI will encourage industries to move from just automation to autonomous processes. In the future, the interacting AI system will manage processes in the manufacturing, logistics, energy, and public services sectors. That way new professions such as program designer specialists can ensure a safe, verifiable, and reliable system.

Dr. Ajith Abraham, Chancellor of Sai University, Chennai, India, discussed the results of a study conducted under the auspices of the International AI Alliance, which was founded in AI Journey 2024. The study results show that AI is generative in accelerating scientific research and discovery significantly. Previously, the understanding of the industry took months or years, but can now be done in a few days or weeks thanks to AI.

Chen Qiufan, science fiction writer AI-2041: Ten Visions for Our Future and Honorary President of China's Scientific Fictions Writers Association, explained the vision of a future where everyone has an AI doctor on mobile phones for early detection of disease and multiagent AI who acts as a tutor, financial manager, yoga instructor, and psychologist, according to him, will fundamentally change human life.

On the same occasion, Herman Gref said that Russia is among the seven countries in the world that have a complete series of the most advanced AI technology. Personal attention from the President of Russia and the government helps maintain the momentum of technology development, while increasing interest among students, researchers, entrepreneurs. This is a lesson for Indonesia in advancing governance and implementing AI technology.

This year AI Journey also marked the growth of the International AI Alliance. Previously, aka this consisted of 17 national associations and institutions from 14 countries, now 11 AI-development associations and institutions from Brazil, Chile, Congo, Egypt, India, Kenya, Oman, South Africa, Tanzania, Turkey, and Vietnam join, adding members from affirming the increasing global awareness that cross-border collaboration is needed to ensure safe, ethical, and beneficial AI development for the wider community.
