JAKARTA Member of Commission I DPR Syamsu Rizal asked the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) to take firm action against Cloudflare, a company providing Content Delivery Network (CDN) services and DDoS protection that has not been registered as an Electronic System Operator (PSE) and involved in online gambling (Judol).
According to Syamsu Rizal, Cloudflare's non-compliance with national regulations cannot be tolerated. Moreover, the company is suspected of being the most widely used service by online gambling sites.
"Komdigi must act decisively against digital companies that do not comply with Indonesian rules. Moreover, if their services are actually used to support illegal activities such as online gambling," said Syamsu Rizal to reporters, Thursday, November 20.
As for the latest operation to eradicate online gambling, Komdigi has blocked and taken down about 10 thousand judol sites. Where 76 percent of them use Cloudflare as service providers.
Syamsu Rizal emphasized that every digital company operating or providing services for entities in Indonesia must comply with national regulations, including PSE registration obligations.
He stressed that non-compliance not only hinders the government's efforts to ensure digital security, but also has the potential to facilitate cybercrime.
"People must be more selective in choosing digital services. People should start switching to digital services that comply with Indonesian rules and be more transparent in managing their data," he said.
The member of the commission in charge of communication and digitalization also assessed that the government must prioritize strict and fair regulations.
"This is so that Indonesia's digital ecosystem remains healthy and free from misuse of technology," he said.

Cloudflare is currently listed as one of 25 Private Scope Electronic System Operators (PSE) who have not registered with Komdigi according to the Minister of Communication and Information Regulation Number 5 of 2020 which has been revised in 2024.
