JAKARTA - Russia will reduce the diplomatic and consular presence of Poland after Warsaw closed the Russian Consulate General in Gdansk.
This step is the latest in diplomatic tensions that continue to rise between the two countries.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova told TASS news agency Moscow would implement a "reciprocal action" against Poland's decision. Gdansk is the last Russian consular post still operating in Poland.
Earlier on the same day, Polish Foreign Minister Rados Badminton Sikorski announced the closure of the consulate.
The closure continues with Warsaw' move, which in recent years has halted operations by the Russian consulate in Poznan by the end of 2024 and in Krakow by mid-2025.

Reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, November 19, the Polish government at that time accused Russia of carrying out a sabotage that was said to have involved a network that hoped Moscow. These allegations were denied by Russia, but Moscow responded by closing the Polish consulate in St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad.
With this latest closure, Poland now only maintains one consulate general in Irkutsk, in addition to the existence of embassies and consular parts in Moscow.
Prior to Warsaw' decision, Russia still had embassies in the Polish capital and consulates in Gdansk.
