Be Alert, BMKG Detects Two Cyclone Seeds Potentially Strengthening In Indonesian Waters

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported the formation of the seeds of Cyclone 97S on Friday (14/11/2025), in the Indian Ocean region, southwest of West Nusa Tenggara.

BMKG said the cyclone seeds detected in the TCWC Jakarta Area of Monitoring (AoM) have a maximum wind speed of about 15 knots or 28 km per hour, with a minimum air pressure of 1009 hPa.

In addition, BMKG also monitors the seeds of Tropical Cyclone 91W which shows the potential to develop into tropical cyclones in the next 24 to 72 hours.

"The potential seeds of Tropical Cyclone 91W develop into tropical cyclones in the next 24-72 hours in the low category with movement to the east," said an excerpt from the BMKG's official statement quoting Antara.

Although the growth opportunities are still in the low category, these cyclone seeds are moving east and still need to be watched out for.

BMKG urges the public to remain alert to weather changes around their respective areas.

According to the BMKG, these cyclone seeds have the potential to trigger rain with moderate to heavy intensity in East Java, Bali, and East Nusa Tenggara. Meanwhile, heavy to very heavy rains are expected to occur in West Nusa Tenggara.

In addition to rain, BMKG also noted the potential for strong winds that could occur in the East Nusa Tenggara region. This condition also triggers an increase in wave height in a number of waters.

Waves as high as 1.25 to 2.5 meters have the potential to occur in the Indian Ocean south of East Java to Bali, the Indian Ocean south of West Nusa Tenggara, and the waters of the southern part of the Bali Strait to the western part of the Sumba Strait.

As for the higher waves, reaching 2.5 to 4.0 meters, it is estimated that they will appear in the Indian Ocean south of East Nusa Tenggara.

Meanwhile, BMKG Sentia forecaster informed the weather situation in a number of big cities today.

Weather forecasts on the island of Sumatra with thick clouds are in Aceh, Pekanbaru, Medan, and rain accompanied by lightning in Tanjung Pinang.

The island of Java is forecasted for light rain, including in Serang, Jakarta and Bandung, while Semarang, Yogyakarta has the potential for moderate rain, and be aware of rain accompanied by lightning in Surabaya.

The weather situation in Bali and Nusa Tenggara is forecasted to be thick cloudy in Mataram, while light rain in Denpasar and thunderstorms in Kupang.

Kalimantan is dominated by light rain, including in Palangkaraya, while thunderstorms have the opportunity to hit Tanjung Selor, Pontianak, Samarinda, and Banjarmasin.

Sulawesi is forecasted to be thick cloudy in Gorontalo and Manado, light rain in Palu and Mamuju, while rain is likely to occur in Makassar.

Weather information in eastern Indonesia, light rain in Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura and Jayawijaya. Rain is on Merauke, and thunderstorms in Nabire.
