JAKARTA - The Ukrainian government has temporarily suspended German Justice Minister Galushchenko amid a corruption investigation in the energy sector.

Ukrainian authorities have charged seven people with alleged $100 million bribery schemes involving senior energy officials. The scheme has sparked public outrage and focused attention on Kyiv's fight against corruption.

Galushchenko, who previously served as energy minister, became the subject of investigative action.

It was not stated whether this was related to an energy corruption case investigated by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Galushchenko agrees with the government's decision, saying "the suspension during the investigation period is a civilized and precise scenario" in a Facebook post.

"I will defend myself in the realm of law and prove my position," Galushchenko said, without providing further details on the cause of the investigation.

The charges of bribery in the energy sector are very sensitive to the wider community, which is facing a long daily power outage in most parts of the country even before winter temperatures arrived as the country was fending off Russia's massive attacks on its infrastructure.
