The PDI-P faction (PDIP) of the DPR RI has confirmed that it will oversee the process of revising the Law (RUU) on Copyright which will be discussed by the Legislation Body (Baleg). Member of the DPR from the PDIP faction, Lasarus, said that guarding the changes in the legal umbrella is important so that every regulation that is prepared will not harm any party.

This was conveyed by Lasarus after previously the PDIP faction of the DPR received an audience of the Indonesian Voice Vibration (VISION) management led by musicians Armand Maulana and Nazril Irham (Ariel NOAH) at the DPR Building, Monday, November 10.

"Of course we from the PDI-P faction have heard everything and we will properly oversee the implementation of the revision of this law so that the problematic articles in the Law on Copyright can be resolved immediately and the purpose of making this law is indeed in accordance with the wishes of all parties," said Lasarus.

For information, the DPR Baleg will hold a plenary meeting of the RDPU with the All-Indonusa Composite Association (AKSI), the Indonesian Voice Vibration (VISION), and the Indonesian Recording Industry Association (ASIRI) in the context of harmonizing the Bill on Amendments to Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright today, Tuesday, November 11 at 13.00 WIB.

Lasarus revealed, in an audience led by the Chairperson of the PDIP faction, Utut Adianto, VISI conveyed a number of issues related to the Bill on Copyright. One of them is regarding several articles that have not accommodated the wishes of art workers.

"In principle, what we have discussed earlier is that there is a system that is not going well, so the royalties do not reach those who are entitled. The main point is there, that's the first," he said.

"Secondly, then we will discuss further to distinguish between social spaces, which business spaces are related to these royalties. Yes, this will also be well separated later in this revised plan," added the Chairman of Commission V DPR RI.

Lasarus also knows that the Legislative Council of the Republic of Indonesia has scheduled a public hearing (RDPU) today, by summoning other art worker organizations to receive input related to the Bill on Copyright.

The West Kalimantan legislator reminded that the government should really be open to accepting the aspirations of the community, especially VISI and other art worker organizations in drafting the Bill on Copyright.

Lasarus emphasized that the PDIP faction of the DPR RI hopes that the rules drafted in the Copyright Bill can accommodate the wishes of all parties. Most importantly, said Lasarus, the legal umbrella can provide a sense of justice for the Indonesian music industry.

"Because the goal is the same, actually, how about this copyright that has the right to get it as it should, in which space that can be billed by what is called business, the copyright can be billed, then which one is social, for example we are in public spaces, for example, we sing just having fun ourselves, it was billed by friends, for example from songwriters and so on. This must be well distinguished in the revision," concluded Lasarus.
