AHY: Prabowo Ensures Government Is Looking For Debt Solutions

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said President Prabowo Subianto ensured that the government was present to find solutions to the debt problem for the Jakarta 'Bandung' high-speed rail project.

"We make sure, earlier the President said that related to the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train, of course the state, the government will attend and we will involve all parties," AHY said after meeting with President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Monday, November 3.

AHY said this afternoon the Ministry he chaired had held a coordination meeting, which was attended by Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwaghandi, and officials from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Finance.

In the meeting, he said, all parties agreed to present the best solution for all.

"Everyone wants to take a role, take part, take part in the responsibility to restructure the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train finances," said AHY.

According to AHY, the state will still be present in the financial restructuring through the role of the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). However, details regarding the form of government support will be further explained after the discussion process is complete.

In addition, AHY said that his party continues to coordinate with Danantara and the Chinese government in the negotiation process related to restructuring. However, AHY was reluctant to explain further about the details of the negotiations made.

"There are many aspects, yes, which are also being negotiated. We don't want to spit out it first because the name is still in negotiations. Because of this, friends, please understand, negotiations also need space .... Hopefully it can produce the best for us, because the principle is negotiations for the best for Indonesia," he said.

AHY explained that if the issue regarding the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train debt is completed, the government also plans to develop a high-speed rail project to other areas, including the Jakarta-Surabaya to Banyuwangi routes.

"And in the end, when it's finished, if we can find the best solution, then we will also develop a high-speed train for the next routes," said AHY.

"Including a few moments ago, the President conveyed why not Jakarta-Surabaya, even Banyuwangi. The hope is that it will open or provide a way for equitable development. This is talking about justice, I repeat talking about justice and equity between regions. No one should be left behind and no one should then be unaffordable," he added.
