The Impact Of RDF Plant Rorotan, 20 Children And Toddlers Experience Eye Disease, Cold Cough And ARI

JAKARTA - Twenty children and toddlers residents of RT 18, East Cakung experienced illness due to air pollution as a result of the Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) operational trial of Plant Rorotan, North Jakarta.

"That's right, 20 of my residents have experienced various air-related diseases. That's just my RT residents, not from other areas," said Head of RT 18 Cakung Timur, Wahyu Andre Maryono, Monday, November 3, 2025.

According to him, all these residents were sick throughout October 2025 after the RDF Plant Rorotan trial.

"I did data collection and this resident was recorded to have experienced a number of diseases," he said.

He said the disease experienced by residents started from eye pain, coughing colds, vomiting, Bronchopneumonia, inspection of acute respiratory tracts (ARI).

Meanwhile, 20 children and toddlers who were affected by air pollution due to RDF Plant were NT (4) coughing colds and eye disease, KN (2) eye disease and coughing colds, YN (7 months) vomiting and coughing colds, AX (9) red eyes, KN (7) eye disease, IR (6) coughing colds protracted, MTW (9) coughing colds, RY (5) coughing, RS (4) coughing, AYK (6) coughing colds.

ARK (3.5) coughed colds, DR (9) coughed, JS (7) coughed, KY (2) ispa or bronchopneumonia, ARH (7 months) coughed colds, KL (2) cough, AQL (4), AD (7) ISPA, MS (3) ISPA and red eyes, KP have sore eyes and cough colds.

"There are five people who are still sick to this day," he said.

He said, most of the residents underwent independent treatment and some were receiving treatment at the hospital.

"We ask that this be a serious concern for the government because of the residents who are experiencing the impact," he said.

Meanwhile, residents of housing around RDF asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to stop the operation of Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) Rorotan Plant which was unable to meet Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) so that it had an impact on the environment and health of residents.

"We urge the RDF Plant Rorotan to be closed or stop operating in order to maintain the health, comfort, and quality of the residents' environment," he said.

He said that based on the facts in the field, it was found that there were violations of SOPs and promises related to operations.

His party asked the RDF Plant Rorotan manager to improve all standard operating procedures and keep the agreed promise during the RDF Plant trial.

Starting from closing warehouse doors or factories when loading and unloading and storing garbage to prevent the spread of smell.

Then make sure only the compacter car is closed tightly and it is like a road that is used to transport garbage to prevent waste from being scattered and causing a lindi water spill (leache).
