Drunk Ends In Death, Papua New Guinea Citizen Killed By Beating In Jayapura

JAYAPURA - A foreign citizen (WNA) from Papua New Guinea named Luis was found dead after being involved in a commotion and being beaten by a colleague who both drank liquor in the Abepura area, Jayapura City, Papua.

"From the reports received, it is known that the victim and the perpetrators previously drank alcoholic beverages around Jalan Timika, Abepura," said Jayapura City Police Chief Kombes Fredrickus Maclarimboen in Jayapura, Antara, Monday, November 3.

According to Fredrickus, a number of witnesses said the commotion began when the victims and perpetrators were both under the influence of alcohol. The fight then led to a beating, where the victim was attacked using a sharp weapon.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jayapura Police, Kompol I Dewa Gede Ditya, said the victim was found dead in front of the As-Shilihin Mosque, Gerilyawan Street, Kota Baru Village, Abepura District, on Sunday morning at around 02.30 WIT. The victim suffered severe injuries to the chest.

From the results of the investigation, the police identified two perpetrators of the beating. One perpetrator, with the initials EM (28), has been arrested around Abepura Hospital, while another, with the initials M, is still at large.

"Perpetrator M is still being chased and we hope that the person concerned will surrender immediately," said Dewa.

The results of the initial examination showed that the beating was triggered by the perpetrator's offended by the victim's words which were considered challenging. Evidence in the form of a folding knife used by the perpetrator is still being searched because it was thrown around the scene.
