JAKARTA - President Prabowo will make a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) which will comprehensively regulate the online motorcycle taxi (ojol) ecosystem in Indonesia. This regulation will cover various aspects ranging from driver status and tariff, to protection mechanisms and the welfare of ojol partners.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi revealed that the discussion of the regulation is still ongoing and involves a number of parties, including large applicator companies and driver representatives.
"Everything is being communicated. The government wants to ensure that this rule provides real protection to ojol friends," Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace, written Tuesday, October 28.
According to him, the preparation of the Presidential Decree is a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's direction, which previously requested that online transportation application companies create healthy competition while improving the welfare of driver-partners.
Prasetyo explained that the draft rules are already in the State Secretariat (Setneg) and are currently being studied more deeply to unite various interests.
We are studying the draft. There are still several things that need to be communicated with all parties. The government is looking for the best meeting point so that all parties benefit," he said.
Regarding the form of regulations, Prasetyo ensured that the government chose the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) because it was considered faster to implement it compared to regulations at the ministry or legislation level.
"Maybe the Presidential Regulation, to make it faster. The target, as soon as possible, is very likely to be completed this year," he explained.
He added that continued meetings with applicators will continue before the regulation is officially passed. The government wants to ensure that tariffs, incentive systems, and driver job protection are fairly regulated.

"In general, almost all substances have been agreed upon. It remains only to finalize some technical matters so that the implementation does not harm any party," said Prasetyo asserted.
With the ratification of this Presidential Decree later, the government hopes that the online transportation world in Indonesia can run healthier, fairer, and provide guaranteed welfare that is feasible for millions of ojol drivers in the country.
