WHO: It Takes IDR 116 Trillion To Rebuild Health Services In Gaza

JAKARTA - The rebuilding of the health care system in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, requires at least USD 7 billion (approximately IDR 116.3 trillion), said Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Quoted by Antara, Saturday, October 25, he said none of the hospitals in Gaza function normally and only 14 hospitals are still operating.

"Until now, Gaza is still facing a crisis of medicines, medical equipment, and health workers," Tedros said.

He asked other countries to be more active in accepting patients from Gaza so that they receive medical treatment.

According to the WHO, about 15,000 people in Gaza still need medical evacuation, including 4,000 children. Meanwhile, 700 people died while waiting for the evacuation process.

Trump proposed a peace plan in Gaza containing 20 points on September 29, calling for an immediate ceasefire, on the condition that the hostages be released within 72 hours.

The plan also proposes that Hamas or other Palestinian armed groups not be included in the new government in the Gaza Strip and control the region is handed over to the technocrat committee overseen by Trump's international body.

On October 9, Israel and Hamas reached an agreement to carry out the first phase of the plan to end the armed conflict in the Gaza Strip which has been going on for two years.

On October 13, Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Emir Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the declaration of a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave.

The deal requires Hamas to release 20 surviving Israeli hostages and has been detained in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. In return, Israel released 1,718 Palestinian prisoners from Gaza and 250 Palestinian prisoners detained in Israeli prisons.
