JAKARTA - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) Admiral Muhammad Ali said his party would collaborate with PT PAL Indonesia to develop an unmanned submarine (KSOT) or submarine so that it could be equipped with a torpedo weapon.

"It is still being studied by PT PAL, assisted by the Navy to create KSOTs that can shoot torpedoes," Ali said when met by media crews at Kolinlamil Pier, North Jakarta, Friday.

According to Ali, the development needs to be carried out so that the first Indonesian unmanned submarine can function to detect the enemy with radar, as well as carry out attacks.

Regarding the KSOT shooting test which is planned to be carried out next week, Ali said that his party could not confirm this.

"We don't know the time (of the shootout) yet, but we will continue to try," he said.

Previously, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said the Indonesian Navy would deploy an unmanned KSOT or submarine to conduct its first test fire next week.

"Next week we will shoot an unmanned submarine," said Sjafrie when met at the Ministry of Defense office in Central Jakarta, Wednesday, October 22.

Sjafrie explained that the shootout would be carried out in the Surabaya sea area under the Fleet Command (Koarmada) II area.

According to the Minister of Defense, Indonesia should be proud of the existence of this KSOT because Indonesia is the fourth country to have an unmanned submarine.

He continued the shooting trial with KSOT which was open to the public to watch and asked the media crew to participate in covering so that the entire community could see it.

"Those who want to participate (residents) register, register, will be transported by the Hercules plane of the TNI Commander," said Sjafrie.
