JAKARTA - Iran, Russia and China have officially sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) and the UN Security Council (DK PBB) stating that the nuclear deal with Iran has ended.

Thus, discussions on the agreement at the UN DK level are declared complete.

Quoted from Anadolu, Sunday, October 19, in the joint letter, the three countries criticized the steps taken by Britain, France, and Germany known as the E3 group for trying to trigger a snapshotback mechanism to reimpose UN sanctions against Iran based on the Security Council Resolution No. 2231.

According to them, E3's efforts are legal and procedural because the European countries themselves have stopped implementing their commitments in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the 2231 Resolution Plan.

"Thus, they have no legal basis for activating the mechanism," reads the letter quoted from Iranian state media.

The letter also confirmed that all provisions in Resolution 2231 had ended on October 18, 2025, in accordance with the operational paragraph of the 8 resolutions.

The full and timely settlement of Resolution 2231 marks the end of UN Security Council's considerations of Iran's nuclear issue, while strengthening UN DK authorities and the credibility of multilateral diplomacy, the letter reads.

Furthermore, Iran, Russia, and China are calling on all parties to remain committed to seeking a political settlement that accommodates common interests through respectful diplomatic dialogue.

They also reminded other countries to avoid the application of unilateral sanctions, threats of force, or actions that have the potential to worsen the situation in the region.

Earlier, Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that all restrictions and mechanisms related to its nuclear program had officially ended on October 18, 2025, coinciding with the end of the 10-year Resolution 2231 period adopted on July 20, 2015.

The 10-year period stipulated in the 2231 Resolution ends on October 18, and all provisions and restrictions related to Iran's nuclear program have been suspended since that date, the Iranian Foreign Ministry's official statement said.

The previous E3 move on August 28, 2025, which activated the snapshotback mechanism was based on allegations that Iran violated commitments in the JCPOA. The mechanism is also referred to as a follow-up to the United States decision that in 2018 withdrew unilaterally from the agreement.
