One Year Prabowo-Gibran: There Is A Real Change In The Land Of Papua

JAKARTA - One year the administration of President Prabowo Subianto has shown real changes in the Land of Papua. This was conveyed by a young West Papuan figure, Malkin Kosepa.

The native son of the Sebyar Tribe from Teluk Bintuni assessed that the current government's approach is more humane, inclusive, and oriented towards people's welfare, not just security.

"President Prabowo Subianto has proven that building Papua is not just a matter of roads and bridges, but about elevating the dignity of Papuans through education, economy, and empowering local communities," said Malkin, Sunday, October 19, 2025.

According to him, since the Red and White cabinet took the lead, many development programs in the 3T region (frontier, remote, disadvantaged) have now been really benefited by the community.

He gave an example of increasing connectivity through the construction of Trans Papua roads, equitable access to clean water, and expanding electricity networks to villages in the interior of Teluk Bintuni and Fakfak.

"In the past, electricity only turned on in the city, now it has arrived at the village. Children can study at night, and people can run small businesses such as processing sago and marine products. That's the change we feel directly," he said.

He also appreciated the Papua Training Center (PTC) program which has now been established in several districts, including Manokwari and Sorong. According to him, the program is a forum for fostering the younger generation of Papua so that they are ready to compete in the world of work and entrepreneurs.

"Many young Papuans now don't just want to become ASN, but are starting to dare to open their own businesses. The government is here to provide training and access to capital, hopefully this program can reach other regions in Papua," he said.

In addition, Malkin praised the humanist approach of the TNI-Polri security apparatus in maintaining stability in Papua. He assessed that the change in the culture of this approach could not be separated from President Prabowo Subianto's direct direction which emphasized the importance of 'security that prospers'.

"Now the authorities often help people build houses, repair roads, and even participate in planting food with residents. That is an approach that makes people feel protected, not feared," he said.

According to Malkin, the success of reducing extreme poverty in Papua by 4.2 percent is a tangible result of an integrated development strategy, where the education, health and economic sectors go hand in hand.

"This approach is in accordance with the expectations of the Papuan people, that progress must come with a sense of justice and recognition of our identity," he explained.

Malkin also hopes that the security situation in Papua, especially West Papua, will be more conducive so that development programs can run safely, smoothly, and the benefits will be increasingly felt by the community.

"We are all part of the Republic of Indonesia. Let's maintain peace and together continue the development of this country for future generations," he added.

He has optimism that under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, Papua will be a real example of how development, peace, and unity can run in line with the Papuan Earth.

"President Prabowo Subianto has paved the way for the new era of Papua, an era where we are not only spectators of development, but the main actors on our own land," he said.
