After 2 Months Of Lockdown, The Fate Of The Bandung Zoo Animal Is Now In The Hands Of The City Government

The West Java Regional Police confirmed that the operation of the Bandung Zoo (Bandung Zoo) was handed over to the Bandung City Government as the legal owner of the conservation institution's land.

Head of West Java Regional Police Public Relations, Kombes Hendra Rochmawan, said the Bandung City Government needed to immediately determine steps related to the future of Bandung Zoo which had been closed since August 6, 2025.

"From the operational side of Bandung Zoo, we leave it to the City Government. As for the police, we are in the process from the side of the legal case," said Hendra in Bandung, Antara, Thursday, October 16.

The police have officially opened a police line at the Bandung Zoo entrance because many micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) were affected by the closure.

"However, regarding socio-economics, a policy is given by the local government and please for those with an interest to be managed properly," he said.

After the opening of the police line, Hendra asked the Tamansari Wildlife Foundation (YMT) together with the Bandung City Government to immediately determine the Bandung Zoo management mechanism. This is important considering the survival of the animals and workers in it.

He hopes that all interested parties can be wise in managing the zoo without sacrificing animal welfare.

"That is the policy of the Regional Police Chief which prioritizes public solving, the solution is limited to our authority. Please manage it properly without any disputes and quarrels," he said.

Previously, Bandung Zoo was closed after being named as evidence of the alleged corruption case being tried. The defendants in this case included R. Bisma Bratakoesoema and Sri Devi, as well as former Regional Secretary of Bandung City Yossi Irianto in different case files.

Bandung Zoo's assets are now officially entrusted to the Bandung City Government as the land owner.
