Wamenperin: Jakarta Could Be Indonesia's Shenzhen

Deputy Minister of Industry (Wamenperin) Faisol Riza said DKI Jakarta has great potential to become a center for national industrialization and downstreaming, just like the city of Shenzhen in China.

This was conveyed by Faisol after meeting the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, at the DKI Jakarta City Hall in discussing Jakarta's role in the industrial world.

"DKI has enormous potential and human resources, from financial resources, from infrastructure, everything is very adequate. We actually say that DKI can become Indonesia's Shenzhen," said Faisol, Wednesday, October 15.

According to Faisol, the provincial government has a strategic and vital role in supporting industrial growth in Indonesia. He assessed that DKI Jakarta could be a beacon or a lighthouse of national industrialization activities.

"So far, the provincial government may not be actively involved in industrial activities. On this occasion, I ask for the support of the Governor and want him to be part of the great work of industrialization and downstreaming in Indonesia," said Faisol.

The central government, he continued, wants Jakarta to be focused on being the center of various industrial activities.

In addition, Faisol also highlighted the potential of small and medium industries in Jakarta, especially the workshop sector which reaches around 40 thousand units. He wants these workshops to be part of the national industrialization ecosystem.

"We want to initiate with the Jakarta government to encourage simple alsintan products, such as hand tractors, planting tools that can be produced by workshops in Jakarta. The results can be taken by the Ministry of Agriculture and distributed to farmer groups throughout Indonesia," he said.

According to him, this industrialization model from the lower levels can be a solution to meet the needs of farmers while at the same time moving the home industry in urban areas.

"So this is an industrialization model from the lower levels through simple workshops. But it is able to meet the needs of farmer groups, which now receive assistance from the central government in the form of agricultural equipment, amounting to approximately 30,000 units," he added.
