JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday the Palestinian militant group Hamas had agreed to strip its weapons, as part of a peace proposal in the Gaza Strip.
Following the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza reached last week, Hamas released the last surviving Israeli hostages from Gaza.
On the other hand, Israel has repatriated several full buses of Palestinian prisoners based on a ceasefire deal brokered by President Trump.
However, Hamas has not publicly committed to laying down his gun.
"If they don't strip, we will strip them of weapons. And it will happen quickly and possibly with violence," said President Trump during a meeting at the White House with Argentine President Javier Milei.
President Trump said he had communicated this to Hamas and they had agreed to strip the weapons, as stated in his 20-point peace proposal.
"I've spoken to Hamas, and I said, you're going to strip your weapons, right? Yes, we're going to strip you of weapons. That's what they told me," President Trump said, then clarified. He conveyed the message through an intermediary.
