Foreign Minister Sugiono Reveals Prabowo-Trump Chat When Mic Leaks Personal

JAKARTA - Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Sugiono said the video of a non-formal conversation between President Prabowo Subianto and President of the United States (US) Donald Trump on the sidelines of the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, was private. According to him, this is not related to formal state affairs.

This was said by Sugiono in response to a viral video from the microphone sound that caught a light conversation between Trump and Prabowo, which was then widely discussed by the public because it was said to have offended the invitation to a meeting with Trump's family.

"There are many things that the two of them talk about outside of formal state matters, because both are friends," said Sugiono.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said that there was nothing extraordinary when Trump and Prabowo exchanged chats at the moment.

He explained that President Prabowo did often talk informally with world leaders, including Donald Trump, who had a fairly close relationship with him.

"Usually yes, the President spoke with the other heads of state both and I think the President's relationship with President Trump is also very close," said Sugiono.

Regarding speculation that the conversation alluded to plans for a meeting with Trump's family, including Eric Trump, Foreign Minister Sugiono admitted that he did not know for sure the contents of the conversation.

"I don't know what the contents of the conversation, it could be, all kinds of things. Pak Prabowo often talked together, yesterday he also spoke to many heads of state during a long time waiting for him," said Sugiono.

Sugiono said, if there are discussions that are official or need to be followed up in the context of diplomatic relations, his party will definitely be given direct directions by the President.

Footage of the conversation between President Prabowo and President Trump on the sidelines of the Gaza Peace Summit went viral after the microphone of the lit podium caught the voice of the two.

In the casual talks, Prabowo briefly asked about the possibility of meeting with Eric Trump, Donald Trump's son who served as Trump's Executive Vice President of the Organization.

The exact context of the conversation is not yet known, but the dialogue came after Trump delivered a speech related to the ceasefire in Gaza.
