JAKARTA - Wisudawan Faculty of Public Health (FKM) of the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta from Yemen, Khleg Gamal Mohammed Al-Yamani, conveyed a message of struggle, education, and humanity when he was a representative of the graduates in the Open Session of the Senate of the Graduation Period I of 2026, Saturday (23/5/2026).
The speech was delivered at the first session of the graduation ceremony which took place at the K.H. Ahmad Azhar Basyir Auditorium, MA., Cendekia Building UMJ. In his speech, Khleg expressed gratitude for the long journey that the graduates had gone through until finally reaching the graduation moment.
"After years of hard work, facing challenges and keeping hope, we finally reached this moment," Khleg said.
As an international student, Khleg assessed that UMJ is a space that accepts cultural diversity and unites students from various countries through science. According to him, the support from lecturers, friends, and academic staff makes the campus feel like a second home.
"At UMJ, we learned that cultural differences are not barriers, but rather an opportunity to get to know each other and be united by science," he said.
Khleg also recalled the experience of community service in Malaysia which taught him about solidarity and cross-cultural togetherness. He said that experience showed that students from different countries and backgrounds could still build relationships like a family.
In his speech, Khleg also shared a quote from a poem that motivated him during his studies.
"Years of effort and although it feels long, it will definitely end in time. With God's help, hope will never fail. After the difficulties come ease and ease," he said.
He also quoted an inspirational message from Nelson Mandela about the importance of education.
"Education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the world," he said.
On that occasion, Khleg expressed his appreciation to the Rector of UMJ Prof. Dr. Ma'mun Murod, M.Si., Dean of FKM Dr. Erni, lecturers, academic staff, to the lecturers who guided Dewi Permowati and Munaya Fauziah for their support during the lecture process. He also thanked his parents who continued to give prayers and support.
Khleg closed his speech with the hope that UMJ will continue to develop into a campus that is open to students from various countries and upholds the values of science and humanity.
A total of 1,176 UMJ students were officially declared graduates in the 14th Doctoral Program, 9th Specialist, 83rd Bachelor Program, and 2025/2026 Academic Three-Year Diploma procession.
