DKI Opens Discourse To Reduce Transjakarta Subsidy Next Year

JAKARTA - The Special Staff of the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Development and City Planning, Nirwono Yoga, admitted that the local government is opening a discourse to reduce the nominal Transjakarta tariff subsidy next year.

If the nominal subsidy sourced from the APBD is lowered, then the amount of Transjakarta tariffs paid by the community for each use will increase.

"This is just a study. Maybe what is more appropriate is that I call it not an increase, yes, but a reduction in subsidies. (If applied), of course for 2026, yes. It is impossible in 2025," Nirwono told reporters, Tuesday, October 13.

Please note, the economic value of Transjakarta services per customer is Rp. 15,000. So far, the DKI Provincial Government has budgeted a ticket subsidy of Rp. 11,500. Thus, each passenger only pays a Transjakarta tariff of Rp. 3,500 per way.

Meanwhile, the central government decided to cut the transfer funds on the proceeds sharing fund (DBH) to Jakarta amounting to Rp15 trillion in the APBD next year.

Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government is reshuffling the preparation of the APBD with a number of options for shifting the budget allocation. One of them is adjusting the value of transportation service subsidies.

"With a reduction in subsidies from Rp11,500 to Rp10,000, automatically the available budget can be used to buy other buses, for example, add fleets, then for example for grants of 15 free groups. That must also keep going," explained Nirwono.

However, Nirwono emphasized that the decline in subsidies resulting in the increase in Transjakarta rates has not become a decision. The DKI Provincial Government and the DKI DPRD are still working on the discourse in line with the preparation of the 2026 APBD draft.

"It's only this week that the Department of Transportation and the DPRD are still breaking the numbers. Then, of course, the Governor considers economic conditions and community situations," said Nirwono.

"This means that there are considerations that are technically uncertain and then have to go up immediately," he added.
