JAKARTA - Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati reminded all regions to increase preparedness for potential wet hydrometeorological disasters ahead of November, when most parts of Indonesia entered the peak of the rainy season.

"We ask to start being prepared for this wet hydrometeorological disaster, especially to enter November," said Dwikorita after attending the 2025 Karhutla Control Exposure at the Ministry of Forestry Office, Jakarta, Antara, Monday, October 13.

Dwikorita said that a number of vulnerable areas such as North Sumatra as well as several points in West Java, Central Java, and East Java need to be aware of the potential for flash floods and other hydrometeorological disasters that often cause casualties.

"Need the next preparedness after forest and land fires, and coordination must begin from now on," he added.

Meanwhile, Deputy for Meteorology of BMKG Guswanto explained that Indonesia is currently entering a transition period for the season, which is marked by the increasing potential for extreme weather in a number of areas.

"It happened in the North Sumatra region, then also in the central part of Java," he said.

He added that the rainy season in several areas had started since August, but due to the wide area of Indonesia, the beginning of the rainy season did not occur simultaneously.

"Later in November almost all areas will have entered the rainy season. In December, January, and February, rain will occur simultaneously throughout Indonesia," said Guswanto.

BMKG, he continued, continues to disseminate and educate the public to be better prepared to face the potential for extreme weather and actively monitor weather and climate forecasts through the official BMKG channel.
