Karawang Regency Government Records 121 Cases Of Violence Against Women And Children, Dominated By Sexual Violence

KARAWANG - The Office of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection in Karawang Regency, West Java recorded that 121 cases of violence against women and children occurred from January to October 2025.

"The cases of violence against women and children are known from the number of reports we received from the public," said the Technical Implementation Unit of the Karawang Women and Children Protection Agency, Nur Regina, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, October 6.

He conveyed that the majority of cases that came in were cases of sexual violence against children.

Among the trigger factors is the vacancy of the role of father as a caregiver as well as economic and social factors.

Each report received was immediately followed up according to the needs of the victim, ranging from psychological assistance, legal assistance, health services, to rehabilitation.

Head of the Karawang Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Agency, Wiwiek Krisnawati, said that the number of cases of violence against women and children recorded was only the number of cases known according to the number of reports.

It is possible that in real terms, there are still many cases of violence against women and children in the field, because the potential for victims not to report is quite high.

"Violence against women and children is like an iceberg phenomenon. What looks just the peak. Many victims have not dared to report for various reasons, such as fear of being isolated, bullied, and feel they will not be trusted," he said.

The most cases of violence are still experienced by women and children, especially in the form of sexual harassment. Ironically, many incidents actually occur in public spaces which should be a safe place for all.

"One of the cases that was busy and got the attention of regional leaders," he said.

The Government of Karawang Regency, West Java has prepared assistance to a junior high school student in the Rengasdengklok area who is a victim of sexual harassment by transportation drivers from Islamic boarding schools to schools.

"We have received direct complaints related to the alleged sexual harassment case. The family is afraid and the victim is traumatized. We will provide assistance," said Karawang Regent Aep Syaepuloh.

The victim with the initials SSA (15) is a junior high school student in the Rengasdengklok sub-district, Karawang. Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator has the initials AP alias Ending (46).

The alleged perpetrator with the initials AP is a resident of Rengasdengklok who works as a transport driver to pick up an Islamic boarding school students to school.

The Regent said the Karawang Regency Government would provide full power legal assistance. Including providing psychological assistance for victims and families.

"Then to help the economy of the victim's family. I also provide business capital assistance so that the victim's family can be more productive when at home," he said.

The victim's family was given business capital assistance, because according to the local sub-district government, the victim's family was an underprivileged family.

The Regent admitted that he was sad about the incident. Therefore, he emphasized that he would continue to provide assistance to the victim and the victim's family.
