JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto ordered the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar to examine the structure and strength of buildings in Islamic boarding schools so that the incident of the collapse of the prayer room at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes), Sidoarjo, East Java, did not repeat itself.

Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that the order was given directly by President Prabowo to Coordinating Minister Muhaimin in a limited meeting held at the President's private residence on Jalan Kertanegara, Jakarta, Sunday, October 5 evening.

"The president ordered the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar and his line of ministries to examine and repair official Islamic boarding schools that need to be checked for the strength of the building structure, as well as provide assistance and emphasize the owner of the cottage to pay close attention to the renovation process or building development if he wants to build his cottage," said Seskab Teddy.

On a separate occasion, Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi stated that the incident of the collapse of the mushalla building at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School had become President Prabowo's special attention.

"He continues to monitor it, that's why he then ordered the relevant ministers, and the governor, deputy governor, to pay attention," Prasetyo told reporters in Jakarta on Sunday.

Pras then conveyed that President Prabowo also ordered the evaluation of all Islamic boarding schools, especially in terms of security and safety.

"In the future, we hope that the evaluation of all Islamic boarding schools will be recorded immediately and ensure safety in terms of buildings, infrastructure in their respective boarding schools," continued Prasetyo Hadi.

The mushalla building at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School collapsed on Monday (29/9) last week causing hundreds of students who performed congregational prayers trapped under the rubble of the building.

The incident took place in the middle of the renovation of the mushalla building on the third floor.

More than 400 search and rescue officers (SAR) immediately evacuated victims, but the process was not easy given the large debris that was prone to collapse and could hit survivors who were still trapped.

Deputy for Emergency Management of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Budi Irawan stated that until Sunday, October 5, 2025, the number of victims who died reached 36 people.

Budi estimates that there are still 27 students trapped under the rubble of the mushalla building.

Meanwhile, the Surabaya National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) recorded that the number of survivors as of Saturday (4/10) increased to 104 after one previously missing student was reported to be safe.
