Chevron El Segundo Refinery In Los Angeles Burns

JAKARTA - The fire broke out at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo, one of the largest refineries on the west coast of the US. California Governor Gavin Newsom's press office said the fire had been localized in one area.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear, the Los Angeles Times reported, while broadcaster CBS said firefighters and firefighters rushed to a refinery in the Los Angeles area after receiving reports of the explosion.

"Our office coordinates with local agencies and states to ensure public safety," the Newsom press office on X said.

CBS quoted a police statement stating that they were not aware of any injuries or direct evacuations. Los Angeles regional watchdog Holly Mitchell said the crew had controlled the fire in one refinery area.

In the regulatory report, the US large energy company also reported an emergency burning in El Segundo.

The refinery capacity is 290,000 barrels per day, and the main products are gasoline, jets, and diesel, Chevron said in a statement on its website.

The total storage capacity is 12.5 million barrels of around 150 main tanks.

The Los Angeles fire department is ready to help with any requests for assistance, said Mayor Karen Bass.

"Currently, the impact on LAX is not known," he continued.
