Foreign Minister Sugiono Consistently Emphasizes Reform To International Cooperation At The UN Forum

JAKARTA - United Nations Reform (UN) to international cooperation is part of the main message conveyed by the Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono during a series of the United Nations 80th General Assembly in New York, United States which was held last month.

Foreign Minister Sugiono became part of the Indonesian delegation led by President Prabowo Subianto. This is the first presence of the President of the Republic of Indonesia at the United Nations High School in the last 10 years.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo continued his official trip to Canada after ending his agenda in Uncle Sam's country, Foreign Minister Sugiono remained in New York to attend a series of U.N. 80th high school meetings as well as bilateral meetings.

"Foreign Minister Sugiono attended 10 high-level meetings as well as 14 bilateral and pull-aside meetings on the sidelines of the 80th U.N. high school," said Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yvonne Mewengng via text message to VOI.id, Wednesday, October 1.

Yvonne detailed, high-level meetings attended by Foreign Minister Sugiono include; Launch of the Humanitarian Personnel Protection Declaration (21/9); Informal Dinner on the Middle East with the International Peace Institute (21/9); High-Level Meeting on the Day After and Stabilization Efforts in Gaza (23/9); High-Level Breakfast Meeting on Advanced Financial Health with UNSG Special Advocate for Financial Health (25/9); G20 Foreign Minister Meeting under the South African Presidency (25/9); Ministerial Level Meeting on UNRWA (25/9); United Nations Open Debate DK concerning Artificial Intelligence in Military and Security Domain (25/9); High-Level Meeting on the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons (26/9); BRICS Foreign Ministers Meetings (26/9); as well as High Level Sessions on Muslim Rohingya and Minorities in Myanmar (30/9).

Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that there were a number of main messages conveyed by the Indonesian Foreign Minister in the series of meetings.

The emphasis on UN reforms and multilateral order to be more inclusive, effective and practical, including through the G20 and BRICS.

Foreign Minister Sugiono also encouraged dialogue and international partnerships for peace, particularly in the issue of protecting humanitarian personnel, nuclear weapons and artificial intelligence (AI), said Yvonne.

Full support for Palestinian sovereignty, the Two-State Solution and the strengthening of UNRWA are the next main messages conveyed by Foreign Minister Sugiono.

Dan, Menlu Sugiono juga menekankan pentingnya kerja sama internasional dalam pencapaian Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ketahanan pangan, transisi energi dan penanganan perubahan iklim.

Yvonne added, in addition to strengthening cooperation in general, the bilateral meeting held by Foreign Minister Sugiono also resulted in three concrete deliverables.

"MoU Increases Diplomatic Capacity with Ecuador; MoU for the Establishment of a Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation with Angola; as well as Visa-Free Agreements for holders of diplomatic and service passports with Honduras," said Yvonne.
