JAKARTA After 35 years of being voiced by residents, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung finally ratified the expansion of Kapuk Village, Cengkareng, West Jakarta. The area known as the most populous urban village in the capital city is now officially divided into three: Kapuk Village, South Kapuk, and East Kapuk.
West Jakarta Mayor, Uus Kuswanto, explained that this expansion is an urgent solution to various problems that accumulate due to too large a population.
Before being efended, Kapuk was inhabited by 174,349 people, 221 RTs, and 16 RWs. This number is even three times that of other urban villages, and the population is greater than 15 sub-districts in Jakarta.
"There are limited human resources in Kapuk Village when compared to the existing population," Uus told reporters, quoted on Wednesday (1/10).
Kapuk Village Becomes The Highest Bag Of Vulnerables
In addition to population problems, Kapuk also faces limited basic service facilities. The Mayor of Uus revealed that the Environmental Insecurity Index and the Health Index (IKLK) as well as the Social Insecurity Potential Index (IPKS) in Kapuk were recorded as the highest in West Jakarta.
"The plan to expand Kapuk Village into Kapuk Village, South Kapuk Village, and Kapuk Timur Village is an alternative to solving problems so that public services are closer, faster, and evenly distributed," explained Uus.
This expansion was inaugurated through the Governor's Decree (Kepgub) Number 850 of 2025 which was signed by Pramono Anung on September 23, 2025.

Governor Pramono: "It's Time To Decide"
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admitted that he was surprised when he received a report from the Mayor of West Jakarta regarding the high population in Kapuk Village.
"I don't know why it wasn't decided in the past, but I think it's time to decide," said Pramono at the Kapuk Village Office, Tuesday (30/9).
Pramono chose not to speculate on the reason the previous leader postponed the expansion. Most importantly, now the aspirations of the citizens for decades have been realized for the good of public services.
"I myself don't want any prejudice. The important thing is that the decision taken is for the good of the people in Kapuk, South Kapuk, and East Kapuk sub-districts," he concluded.
