JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that financial health is the key to community resilience, with global financial health important for sustainable development.
Speaking at the "High Level Breakfast Meeting on Advancing Financial Health" on the sidelines of the High Level Week UN General Assembly in New York, United States, Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed his commitment to advancing global financial health.
In a meeting chaired by UN Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA) Ratu M?xima from the Netherlands, the Indonesian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of the issue for sustainable development.
"Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that financial health is the key to community resilience, while recording Indonesia's progress in financial literacy which will increase to 49.7 percent in 2023," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement, Friday, September 26.
"However, he also acknowledged the challenges that still exist, such as the low level of household savings," he added.
Furthermore, on this occasion, Indonesia also highlighted the success of expanding financial inclusion, with adult account ownership reaching 85 percent in 2021, up from 35 percent in 2011, supported by the use of digital finance.
The Indonesian Foreign Minister emphasized that inclusion needs to develop into real financial health, which includes use, resilience, and empowerment.
Indonesia also welcomes the recognition of financial health issues in the Compromisa de Sevilla, expressing readiness to integrate financial health into future UN resolutions, including the 2025 Biennial Resolution on Financial Inclusion.
Commisso de Sevilla is a document resulting from "Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development", which was held in Sevilla, Spain, June 30 to July 3, 2025.
