JAKARTA - Drones flew over several airports in Denmark on Thursday, September 25th. As a result, flight operations at the airports were affected by the closure for hours.
Police said the drones were spotted at Danish airports in Aalborg, Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup air base before disappearing today.
Aalborg Airport, located in northern Denmark and one of the country's largest airports after Copenhagen, was closed before reopening several hours later.
"It's impossible to shoot down a drone, which was flying over a very large area for several hours," said North Jutland police chief inspector Jesper Bojgaard Madsen of the Aalborg incident, as quoted by AFP on Thursday, September 25th.
"At this time, we have not arrested the drone operator," he added in a statement.
South Jutland police said they had received several reports of drone activity at Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup airports since Wednesday night.
The drones did not result in the closure of Esbjerg and Sønderborg airports, as no flights were scheduled until Thursday morning.
Police said the drones were "flying with lights and were observed from the ground, but it has not been explained what type of drone they were... or what their motive was."
The Danish police stated that an investigation has been conducted with the country's intelligence service and the armed forces to determine the motive for this incident.
A similar incident occurred this week at Copenhagen Airport, resulting in the temporary closure of flight operations.
Drone overflights also occurred recently in Poland and Romania. Then there was the violation of Estonian airspace by Russian fighter jets as the war in Ukraine escalated.
