JAKARTA - NATO member countries reportedly met today Tuesday, September 23 to discuss three fighter jets violating Estonia's airspace on Friday, August 19.
Citing AFP, the plan for this meeting was initiated by Estonia, who is a member of NATO, citing Article Four of the NATO establishment agreement regarding airspace violations.
Estonia will implement Article Four early NATO after the country said in addition to the 3 fighter jets case, about 20 Russian unmanned aircraft violated its airspace this month.
Previously, it was reported that Russian fighter jets remained above Estonia's airspace for 12 minutes before being escorted out of NATO warplanes.
Estonia said Russia's MiG-31 fighter jets used the country's air territory entry tactics by flying deadlyapprobes and not interacting with Estonian air traffic controls.
Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied the Estonian government's statement. He said the Russian military was operating within international legal limits, including those related to aviation.
