REJANG LEBONG - The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province, has prepared a fine of Rp600 thousand for residents caught littering in the area.

"Currently in Rejang Lebong Regency there is already Regional Regulation number 4 of 2017, concerning Waste Management. In this regulation, it does not regulate waste management, including general provisions, objectives, duties, rights and obligations, as well as prohibitions and administrative sanctions for violators in the form of a fine of Rp600 thousand," said Head of the Rejang Lebong Satpol PP Service Anton Sefrizal quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 22.

He explained that the socialization of the Regional Regulation was carried out in order to help deal with waste in the area, so as to cause public awareness not to litter.

They themselves conducted socialization of the regional regulation when attending meetings with community groups or during public order raids in 15 sub-districts in the area.

"Currently, the sanctions we give are still in the form of social warnings and they must also make a statement that they will not repeat it again. If they are found again, they will be subject to a fine of Rp600 thousand," he explained.

According to him, Rejang Lebong Regency currently has 50 villages/kelurahan involved in waste management in their respective areas, under the guidance of DLH Rejang Lebong Regency.

"This is a classic problem, the village/kelurahan government should have carried out the socialization, and only us from the Satpol PP who carried out direct supervision," he said.

Meanwhile, after the raid on litter disposal in two places that were supervised by the Rejang Lebong Satpol PP itself, he added, the volume of waste that was thrown into this place was reduced.

"There are no more people in front of the Rejang Lebong Dekranasda Building on Jalan MH Thamrin, and there are still STM Cliffs but not before. We think it is those who have never been caught here," said Anton Sefrizal.
