JAKARTA - Commission XIII of the DPR RI invited the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police and the Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum) of the Attorney General's Office, Asep Nana Mulyana, to ask for input regarding the discussion of the Draft Law on the Protection of Witnesses and Victims (RUU LPSK).
Bareskrim Polri proposed the presence of a police litison officer (LO) at LPSK to strengthen witness protection. Meanwhile, Jampidum AGO is of the view that there needs to be a change of perception in view of the victim as evidence.
"Today we held a hearing with Bareskrim from the police, then the prosecutor's office, the Director of General Crimes, the Attorney for Jampidum, then with the Supreme Court. The point is input for strengthening LPSK, the plan to discuss the LPSK Law which we are preparing for the draft," said Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Andreas Hugo Pareira at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 17.
From the inputs submitted in the RDP with Commission XIII of the DPR, Andreas realized that there was one weak point that had prevented LPSK from functioning optimally. This is because limited coordination and LPSK does not have the authority to coordinate directly with the Police or the Prosecutor's Office.
"The police and the prosecutor's office do not have an LO that carries out its functions with LPSK, therefore this issue may be one of the inputs for the revision of the LPSK Law," said Andreas.
Andreas agrees with the AGO's Jampidum view that there needs to be a change in perception in view of the victim as evidence. This view, said Andreas, is also taken into consideration by Commission XIII of the DPR in the discussion of the LPSK Bill.
"Yes, really. That is also input, so it is related to restitution, compensation for, whether it is immaterial losses, that's how we calculate it or material losses, that's also how it must be regulated in this law," he said.
"And also the witnesses here, the definition of witnesses, the definition of victims, and the definition of protection must really be defined carefully, so that we do not mean to protect, but instead give, to become the following victim of the witness who must carry out his function as a witness in the case process," continued the PDIP politician.

Andreas ensured that inputs from the National Police, AGO and the Supreme Court would enrich the LPSK Bill material to be discussed by the DPR.
"I think the enrichment of these materials is a very valuable input for the improvement of the law," he concluded.
