JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admits that many traditional markets in Jakarta are slum and have not been repaired or revitalized.

"A few days ago, we happened to have a special meeting about the market. One of the things that need to be improved must be admitted from the 153 markets owned by Jakarta, not all of which have been revitalized," said Pramono at the Budhi Asih Hospital, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, Tuesday, September 16.

Pramono said that the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government had held a meeting to accommodate the aspirations of traders who are members of the market traders cooperative association. To Pramono, they asked that slum markets be renovated immediately.

Therefore, Pramono will order Perumda Pasar Jaya to immediately map the prioritized market for revitalization and start implementing improvements.

"Yesterday we also met a co-operation of traders and they also asked for renovations or optimization of the existing ones, but they also asked that the public health facilities in the market not be used by the Jaya market to sell. I have agreed, so we will immediately carry out renovations," said Pramono.

Furthermore, if the markets have been revitalized, the DKI Provincial Government will intensify the market digitization program. Where, the transaction system between sellers and buyers is diverted from the habit of using cash into digital payments.

"Like Santa's market, Mayestik and so on, yesterday we competed. Of the 12 markets, (the transaction) increased by 47 percent. So for that I have decided for markets that have not been digitized, we will do it, as well as we will carry out renovations," he explained.

Previously, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Market Traders Cooperative Center (Puskoppas), Gusnal, revealed that 40 percent of traditional markets managed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government are currently in a state of concern.

It is recorded that there are 153 markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya. A total of 153 of them are still actively operating and 7 other markets have been converted.

"Of the number of markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya, around 40 percent of them are in dire condition, slum, muddy, leaking, prone to flooding and prone to fires," said Gusnal in his statement, Monday, September 15.

Puskoppas also noted that 110,480 traders were selling in traditional markets owned by the DKI Provincial Government. A total of 42 percent of traders and their place of business have closed.

Unworthy market exiting conditions, especially in terms of cleanliness and limited parking space, to muddy market conditions, Gusnal acknowledged, reduced visitors' interest in coming to market shopping.

"Currently, traders are in a very difficult situation, making it difficult to survive in trying, especially to fulfill their obligations to pay retribution, parking, toilet, electricity, PHP and other costs," said Gusnal.
