UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said one in five children in Gaza City were diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition in August and needed life-saving emergency nutritional support, provided by UNICEF.
He added that although UNICEF managed to bring more supplies to the Gaza Strip, Israel's ongoing military escalation forced about 10 nutritional centers to close, making children more vulnerable.
Russell emphasized the need for nutrition service protection in Gaza City and throughout the region. "There are no children who should be suffering from malnutrition that we can actually prevent and treat if access to assistance is safe available," he said.
