JAKARTA - Indian security forces shot dead a high commander of the Maois Tribe and nine other fighters in a shootout along the forest border between the states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh late Thursday.
This was conveyed by a senior Indian police officer, Vivekanand Sinha on Friday, September 12.
Among those killed was Modem Balkrishna, who led the Maois organization in Odisha and is also known by many other names, said Sinha, quoted by AFP.
India launched an all-out attack on the remains of the Naxalite movement, named after the village located at the foot of the Himalayan mountains of their headquarters.
The Naxalite is affiliated with the Maois Tribe, which has been lifting arms in a ethnic region rich in minerals in India since nearly six decades ago.
More than 12,000 Maois fighters, soldiers, and civilians have been killed since a handful of villagers bounced back against their feudal rulers there in 1967.
Previously, India gave an award in the form of US$114,000 to anyone who could capture the Balkrishna Modem
India will also firmly crush Maois fighters with a target until the end of March next year. This was emphasized by Indian Interior Minister Amit Shah in his social media accounts.
"The remaining Naxalite must also give up on time," wrote Amit Shah.
