DPR Asks Government To Move Quickly To Handle Bali Flash Floods

JAKARTA Member of Commission VIII DPR, Mahdalena asked the government to move quickly to deal with flash floods that hit almost all areas of Bali. He urged that tactical and comprehensive handling be carried out quickly to prevent the spread of the impact of flooding and minimize casualties and property losses.

"We are sorry for the flash floods that occurred in Bali. The fact that there were casualties shows that this flood is serious and cannot be underestimated," Mahdalena told reporters, Thursday, September 11.

"The government must immediately take quick and measurable steps so that more residents are not affected," said the legislator for the NTB electoral district.

As reported, flash floods hit Bali on Wednesday, September 10, which was triggered by heavy rains since Tuesday, September 9. The flood claimed nine lives spread across the Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Jembrana areas.

Based on temporary data from the Bali Police, as many as four people died in Denpasar, one victim in Badung, two victims in Jembrana, and two in Gianyar.

Mahdalena also asked for the evacuation to be carried out swiftly by involving the apparatus, volunteers, and the community so that no victims were trapped. "The evacuation must be ensured that it runs safely and thoroughly. Do not let any residents fall behind in the flood location," he said again.

In addition to the evacuation, Mahdalena also emphasized the importance of building an emergency post to meet the basic needs of the victims. Such as public kitchens, clean water, food, drinks, and a proper resting place.

The PKB politician added the importance of psychosocial support for vulnerable groups. According to him, the government should pay special attention to women, children and the elderly who are very vulnerable in emergency conditions.

"Psychological support is needed to restore the mentality of the victims, especially women and children," he concluded.
